CASEMAKER TIPS FOR 8.30.2017

New Casemaker Features

  • Treeview – Tree View has been added to the browse.  You now have the choice of browsing with the “list View” or the “Tree View”.  As you may recall, in List View, the entire page is repainted as you navigate the hierarchy.  In Tree View, the page is divided into two frames with expandable TOC on left and document view in the right frame.  The Tree View includes archive data.  Act data have both Bill and Chapter sort in groups of 25 with section level navigation.  You may choice the option of List View or Tree View in the “My Settings” option on the home page.
  •  GoTo Subsection has been added and is available on all document views with subsection such as Statutes, Administrative Code, and Rules.  Example is Ala.Code 1-1-1.  It is also available with Act data.  Example is Alabama HB24, Act 213.
  • Hierarchy Search is now available.  Previously, a search was conducted on an entire statute.  Now, a search can be limited to include data from only a specific part of a hierarchy.  Example is Ala. Code 5.1.
  • New Archive Additions:  Archive is included in Tree View interface.  Each state now has an archive tab not only from the Tree View interface but also from the List View interface.   Rule data as well as Administrative Code data have been added to archive.
  • Advanced Search now supports the “OR” and grouping operators.  Adding full text search and now supporting “OR” and grouping on textual search fields will be popular with your members.  To be released soon.
  • Annotator Tab: We have added the annotator tab on the code sections showing other data that cites this code section.  This feature will be added to the administrative code documents soon.
  • The Quick Print feature has been requested by several members and we are happy to report that this new feature has been implemented as a link from the “My Accounts” area of the home page.  Type in a comma separated list of case citations to print.  Citations not found can be updated and added to queue.  You can save this as a default print setting from “My Settings” or if not, an option page will be presented when ready to print.  We plan to use this new print queue page as a foundation for a variety of other improved print functions. To be released soon.
  • The copy and paste feature has been removed from the flash implementation.  The flash implementation caused problems for some Casemaker users.  We have added copy with a sharable link which many members will appreciate.  If the link is shared with a non Casemaker user, the obfuscated link will go to the Casemaker public sandbox.  In other words, any person can view the document in question on Casemaker, not just Casemaker users.  We plan to expand the use of the “sharable link” concept across other areas of Casemaker.
  • Tribal Courts data has been requested by several Casemaker users and we have now added a tab on the home page.  More and more of this data is being added.  These documents are treated as jurisdiction in case search result.
  • Libra Service: As you know, Libra is a public site to sell online subscription to data posted by a variety of publishers.  Several Bars have added their publications as well as the ABA and other publishers.  A Libra link has been added on the All Contents page for publishers not listed on a state page.  If you are interested in adding your publications, please let us know.
  • We are happy to report that the Rulebook App has been updated.  As you may recall, Casemaker acquired Ready Reference Apps, the publisher of the Rulebook App.  Rulebook is best known as the exclusive mobile publisher of The Bluebook, A Uniform System of Citation.  The app incorporates all the functionality of paper rule books, such as highlighting, bookmarking and note-taking, and adds functionality unique to digital devices, including searching, hyperlinking and multitasking.  Perhaps most importantly, Rulebook keeps all the books customers download current with regular updates that are seamlessly integrated into the app when the rules are amended, without losing all of your highlights and annotations.  Downloaded rules are stored locally on your mobile device so you can work offline, such as while in court.  Casemaker users can purchase the Rulebook App through Casemaker site and receive 15% off.  To be released soon.
